Cold Blooded, But Not Slimy

Reptiles are "cold blooded" or more accurately ectothermic, which means that their body temperature depends on the temperature of their surroundings. A snake on a cold day is a cold snake indeed, and probably an unhappy one. Reptiles need to stay warm to survive, though really hot temperatures that a reptile can´t escape from will kill it faster than being too cool. However, reptiles are not slimy. No reptile secretes slime or mucous. They are dry and feel quite pleasant to the touch, like finely tanned leather. Amphibians like frogs, toads and salamanders may be slimy, as they do secrete mucous to help their skin stay moist.
